Some time back I decided to test the theory if I could make money from twitter. So I did just that. As a background I had 6500 followers the day of the test, not a big number but hey bigger than 6. To keep the test simple I decided that i would just tweet an affiliate link. That way, I did not put it anywhere else, I could see the stats from the affiliate site. That Twitter is hit and miss, its not a precise tool. Its not to be treated as a list, more like an ad in a supermarket or a newspaper. I prefer list marketing but how so ever I do have a targeted followers. So to be honest I would have expected a bigger reaction. So that did not happen lets look at some reasons why not.
1. No one on line. Hey its social media and it was a Saturday night.
2. No one could care less, well my followers are IM based and the product is an IM one. So that should have been a runner.
The last reason is people have so many tweets coming across their screens, that there is no way they can read them all. I get over 1200 tweets a minute so maybe they just can’t read them all. Solution tweet like hell. Not just six, perhaps six every hour.
